artist statement

This semester I have learned many things in Photography, From camera tricks to Photoshop skills. Before taking this class I never would of figured the whole meaning of a picture there is actually more to it. Some vocabulary was the rule of thirds, three C‘s, balance, contrast, f stop, Iso, shutter speed, and so much way more. I cant forget that we also learned about great artist that im sure half of us had never even heard of such as Cindy Sherman, Frida, Gaudi, Sandy scrubland, Andy Glowsworthy and many many more as well. Not to forget that my photo taking skills have grown with in time most of these things we learned was to make us better photographers with good knowledge of artist and the tools we used. Over all this class was very interesting and fun.
Below you will be able to view some of my last semester work and most that was done this semester. I believe that u are able to see the difference between both. At the very bottom of my portfolio I have pictures of last semester which includes scary, meaningful, and experimental pictures. Most of these were photoshoped and non original. After that I have my favorite one from last semester which was my portfolios cover. Later I have pictures of an egg a rare object and me in a frame. These were more original because there was hardly any photoshoping involved. In these there was of the trick of the own camera. Then I have the new photo tricks we learned were we get to make a picture that looks aged and then we get to create our program covers which is fun because they were all submitted for a chance to be published. I also have pictures were we crate shadows and metaphors, these were the pictures that used the new Photoshop tricks we learned. After that comes the camera tricks which involve no Photoshop what so ever and its pretty cool. They are the ones with the iso, light metering, and shutter speed . Last my final I had to take four portrait, this was difficult because I have not done nothing like this before.
Over all I was some what happy with my portfolio I loved the idea that we had them in the interned because it was a creative way to keep our work. I think I struggled to keep up at the end maybe because im a senior and it was harder to stay on point with everything, my work also seemed to not be as good as when the semester first started. Although im happy with it because everything was new to me and I don’t think il ever forget it. Now I know there is still a lot to learn and in the future it would be fun to take another photo class and finish what Ms. Cook started a madness of art.

Self portraits

Self Portraits

In the self portraits final I had a few ideas just because it was very different from other projects I have done before in this class. I wanted to express emotion but as if there was no camera taking a picture, I wanted to capture an emotional moment. My ideas kept changing in order to make the picture better. My most creative moment I believe was the rule of thirds. What made it creative was the chairs and the hallway as well as me standing in the middle. The most difficult part was setting up a good background and getting the person who took the picture to get it just right. Creativity would be a big part of the project because if there was not the pictures would just be BLAH.
To create good composition I had to make some decisions. Most of the pictures I took were set up specifically for that shot although there were moments when I would get happy accidents. Since I didn’t use the camera from school I wasn’t able to make it extraordinary because I am not familiar with the features in my camera at home. Another weakness was that most of my pictures were taken at night making it harder for me to get a good color. After Photoshoping them they turned out better. The portrait with the strongest composition I think was the element, this is because im all in black and my background is all white making it very bright. I would change the composition of the rule of thirds because its very poorly done, it could have been shot better.
Im not very happy with the craftsmanship I believe if I was the one taking the pictures it would have been better. Now I think I have good ideas I just don’t like the lighting and the balance of the pictures. Some are too bright and some are too dark, that was because the pictures were taken at night. I believe they were just a little blurry and none were pixilated. In my camera im not as familiar with the uses as I am with the ones in class so I wasn’t able to change much. Over all I think the ideas are good but the craftsmanship is just ok im sure I could of done better directing.
In conclusion I think I did okay if my ideas were poor I would of done very bad. I really liked the element picture I just couldn’t get a good background. I also needed time, if I was to do this over I think I would of done everything right after school when the sun is out. I also would of token very emotional pictures and would get an older person to take the pictures for me. I would also direct better. My least favorite was the rule of thirds I think it s just the balance of it. As you can see im not very happy with my portrait I know I can do better. This project was a little difficult but very fun as well.

Shutter Speed

Shutter speed affects lighting and movement, so in this pictures i had my partner stand under a lot of light ,in the other picture i had my partner walk so i can catch some movement. The shutter speed i believe is important when lets say you want to take a picture of some one moving and some one standing still the shutter speed believe it or not has a lot to do with having a good picture

Iso

The difference in these three pictures are the iso i learned that the higher the iso the brighter the picture comes out. Also using flash in a picture can sometimes ruin a picture, it may take away some artistic lightning from the picture. These are important when wanting to get a good picture that's non blurry and with good lightning.

light metering

In the photo to my left i focused on the computer and that is what its mainly focused in. On the one to my right i focused on my partner and the camera made the whole picture brighter because it was focused on the person. This is important for when u want a good picture of one particular thing.

Personal Metaphor

My personal metaphor simply describes how i look like a simple girl on the outside, and once you get to know me u notice that I'm very difficult. Just like a rubricks cube. I included one picture of me so it can go on the surface of the full rubricks cube, i also took a broken rubricks cube from the Internet and cut my face into pieces so i can place them on the little cubes. I believe my metaphor has somewhat craftsmanship i really like it. What i could of done better is the lightning and my placement of words.

The Aesthetic Experience

Watching the clear cup of water at the beginning gave me no feeling. When I started concentrating on it, gave me a lonely feeling. It gave the feeling of nothing around but at the same time a feeling of peace. Once the green was dropped in, the feeling was different as if some one came in to the waters life and changed it all in to a different water. The green was taking over the water but then red comes in to the waters life and as well starts taking over. When u think everything is going to be over, the blue comes and also starts taking over. In your life there is people that come and go, some do somewhat change and some have big impacts. The cup of water showed how when the colors were dropped in it changed it into different other colors. To me it showed that the people that come in your life might change you for the better or the worst.

She decided to satay quiet and never say anything to her sister all this for the happiness of her sister. The scene above is where the sister see each other for the first time after several years.

Shadows & Reflections

In this exersises we learned how to create shadows and reflections to help us create more realistic artwork. A new tool we learned was layer mask. the things we learned can help us in the future by making future art look more real and by helping us get better grades in out photo class. Also it just may come in handy one day.

Program Covers

The covers i created were the graduation announcement and the academic letter. These were very fun to work with because I'm a senior and its fun to be a part of the design of our own stuff.

Aged Photo

In this photo we used one of our framed photographs to practice using Photoshop to create specific effects.

Balance with frames

We were given a frame and told we had to be in our compossition, it had to be in black and white and it had to have balance. I created balance by trying to fit my whole self into the frame.

Random Object

We were each assigned a random object to photograph we could choose it to have it in color of black & white. We were to focus on "The Three C's"

According to my peers, the only thing i did well was how the object was set up and the lighting. One thing they suggested i worked on was keeping the camera still when I'm taking the picture. I agree with what my peers said because once you look at the picture both opinions are obvious.

egg challenge

In this project each student was given an egg to photograph. We were to take a photo in both color and black-and-white. We were supposed to exemplify one or more of the following: Creativity, Craftsmanship or Composition. I believe my color egg was the most successful because it was well taken also my black and white came out unfocused, making it easier for me to pick the color one.

my favorite project from last semester

This picture was my portfolios cover page, we had to have a picture of ourselves and add a quote that represents us. It is my favorite because of how its all about me in the picture, the way is set up, and the colors.
